LB

Diego
1 year old
Neutered Male, 44lbs
McNab Mix

Diego is a sweet, very trainable dog. Diego is probably a McNab mix, a herding dog with a strong work ethic. He will be well suited to an adult athletic household where he has some strong structure to rely on. Diego likes dogs, but his play style can be rough, so he needs to be monitored. If he is taken to a dog park, he should be exercised first, so he's a bit tired when interacting with other dogs. Diego had a truce with the cat in his house, but he is vested in chasing small animals, so we do not believe he should go to a home with cats. This energetic and playful dog will bring lots of fun and activity to your home.

Oz
1 year old
Neutered Male, 13lbs
Jack Russell Terrier Mix

This handsome young man has embarked on a journey that would make even Dorothy take notice. He was found at the Northgate Shopping Center looking lost and forlorn. A concerned family brought him to our shelter in hopes of finding him a home. Oz is quite the character. He fetches, sits and comes when called. He loves his tuggy toys. He is a classic terrier with this, with a cute play growl and willingness to be lifted off the ground during play. Take a moment and read about Jack Russell Terriers and Chihuahua breeds, they are bright, energetic and fun. Oz has spent some time in a weekend foster home and he did very well. He is okay with being crated at night, he didn't bark when the doorbell rang and he walks very, very well on leash. If children are around Oz, their interactions should be supervised. This little guy has been fine with older, respectful children, but the littlest ones worry him. Oz knows there is a golden path out there and wants the right family to share his journey. One that will give him the guidance and exercise he needs but has time for a good game of tug.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Shadow
6 year old
Neutered Male, 63lbs
Flat Coat Retriever Mix

Shadow is a lovely, tolerant, friendly guy. He is very people oriented and he needs a household where his people are home most of the time. His previous guardian had a busy schedule, leaving Shadow with the short end of the stick. This butterball seems to have done a lot of fence fighting during his previous life, and will need to be kept inside or in a very private area. He also tends to bark at other dogs from a distance. However, you can distract his focus and this behavior seems to dissipate if he is paired with a solid "leader" dog. Therefore, we suggest that he be a second dog with a stable "first" dog. Shadow is a teddy bear and would enjoy a family with prior canine experience. He needs regular exercise, grooming and plenty of love. Shadow is a very cool dog and will make a great lifelong companion in the right home.

Zoie
2 year old
Spayed Female, 65lbs
Labrador Retriever Mix

Zoie spent most of her early years down in the Central Valley near Fresno. Luckily she was in the right place at the right time when our dedicated Pet Partnership team came into town. If you are looking for a friendly, sweet, high energy dog Zoie is your girl. She has the makings of a great retriever and will be a joy to train. This happy girl enjoys life and is ready to settle down. Her ideal household should be an active family that likes the outdoors- running, hiking or going to the beach. Zoie really likes her kibble and bits and does not like to share, particularly with other dogs. This food guarding necessitates her being an only dog. Zoie is ready for a change, just give her the guidance and structure she needs to be a great lifelong companion.

Cindy
2 year old
Spayed Female, 8lbs
Chihuahua Mix

This cute little pumpkin has one adorable floppy ear and a smile that will melt your heart. Cindy is a spunky, happy young lady that enjoys being with people and still gets the zoomies. She would appreciate it if her new family was home most of the time. Cindy is not comfortable being left alone and can get a little crafty when left to her own devices. If you find her as irresistible as we do, this little angel still has lots of energy and would enjoy living with an active family. Cindy is ready to settle down and will be a great addition to any family that has some previous dog experience.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10 years or older

Zip
1 year old
Spayed Female, 32lbs
Queensland Heeler Mix

Zip is a cute, sweet, people pleasing dog. She is an intelligent dog that loves to have a job. Do your breed research and see why so many people love this girl. Take Zip out for a walk and see how quickly she bonds with you. In fact she can be a little clingy and seeks people for protection. It is time for her to find her forever home, one that has had prior canine experience. Zip is young, smart, agile, engaging and full of life. Teach her to do tricks, start an "Agility" class or just play fetch rather than going to dog parks. With plenty of exercise, a consistent daily routine and lots of love this girl has the makings of being superstar.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10 years or older

Asterix
1 year old
Neutered Male, 10lbs
Chihuahua Mix

Asterix is a great, fun little guy. He has some of the wariness that many small dogs have with being grabbed by big human hands. He is happy to jump in your lap, but not thrilled with being scooped up. When out in the world, he has plenty of confidence and curiosity. He is going to become a fun companion who will need some structure and boundaries so that he doesn't take over a household.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Amy
1 year old
Spayed Female, 23lbs
Terrier Mix

Amy's dance card has been used several times and she is looking for a more permanent relationship. This cute mix may be part Terrier, Jack Russell or even a little Corgi which would explain her long body shape. She has a sweet face, fun personality, and if you have an active life style she just might be the girl for you. Amy loves playing fetch and never met a plushy toy she did not like. Providing her with daily mental and physical exercise will also be paramount. You know the old saying "a tired dog is a happy dog". Her new forever home should have had prior canine experience. Amy is waiting for the right family to give her the attention, respect and guidance enabling her to blossom into a wonderful lifelong companion.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10 years or older

Temperance
1 year old
Spayed Female, 42lbs
American Pit Bull Mix

Temperance is in trial adoption!

Temperance is essentially a little muscle made of joy and fun. She's strong, as with most of her breed, and she'll need some hard work, but basically this is a fine young lady, with the potential to mature into a well behaved adult. Temperance enjoys playing with people and toys, though she doesn't have much persistence as yet. During her "real life" test, Temperance was interested in absolutely everything, and could become frustrated if she is not taught impulse control exercises from the very beginning. She likes other dogs and children, but her overwhelming enthusiasm may be too much for kids and for some other dogs. Her play partners will need to be chosen with care - this is not a dog park dog. However, with fair and firm guidelines and lots of training, Temperance should make her new guardian very proud.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Shiloh
1 year old
Neutered Male, 8lbs
Chihuahua Mix

With his winning little grin, Shiloh will capture your heart and be well on his way to warming your lap. Shiloh is looking for a calm, ordered home where he has plenty of company. Shiloh had a large canine companion in his previous home, and probably would do well with a carefully chosen dog (he likes big ones!). He'll take some time to be comfortable with his new family, and may play "catch me if you can" if he feels uncertain or frightened, but our behavior consultant can help you problem solve this behavior. We'd love to see Shiloh in a new home ... maybe it's yours!

Jack
1 year old
Neutered Male, 12lbs
Jack Russell Terrier Mix

Jack is a bundle of energy! He loves to run and loves people. He is very insistent on being in your lap. He needs to learn that he can't always be there. Jack does not like to be picked up by people he doesn't know. He needs to learn to trust first. So don't rush him. Once he trusts, he will be fine. He is super fun for an active person, a real athlete. He would be a great dog for athletic competitions and would be really fun to train.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with adults only

Bounce
3 month old
Neutered Male, 4lbs
Terrier Mix

Bounce thinks the best place to view the world is from your lap. He's a sweet, sensitive puppy who nonetheless enjoys a good game of "chase the toy and pull all the stuffing out of it." Balls are fun too so be sure to provide Bounce with lots and lots of toys. Bounce arrived at MHS through out Pet Partnership Program and we think he's a mixture of terrier and chihuahua. Structure and management are key elements in raising a puppy. Crate training, puppy pens, and other management tools will help Bounce adjust to his new home. And, don't forget to start socialization right away. Exposure to new experiences is of prime importance in raising a puppy to become a well-adjusted adult. Toys (especially the squeaky ones) and balls are a big part of Bounce's repertoire of entertainment. He invites you to join him in this amusement. And when he is tired, a nap in your arms is just fine. Take sweet Bounce home and enjoy a lifetime of fun with this lovely puppy.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10-16 years or older

Delta Dawn
1 year old
Spayed Female, 8lbs
Chihuahua Mix

Delta Dawn wants to steal your heart and never let you go. This good-looking young lady was found running around Novato without a care in the world. She definitely enjoys people (more than other dogs) and with her sweet personality will certainly melt your heart. Her unusual coat and petite stature makes her one of the most unique dogs we have ever seen. We think she is mostly Chihuahua with a little Italian Greyhound thrown in for good measure.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10 years or older

Jujubie
9 month old
Spayed Female, 10lbs
Scottish Terrier Mix

Jujubie has had a rather sheltered life so far. She is initially rather skittish when meeting new people but does warm up after a while. It's best to get down low on her level for first meeting. Once she is comfortable she enjoys petting and massage. Her previous owner stated she likes kids but we recommend polite, older children who can respect her boundaries. Due to Jujubie's lack of experience with other dogs she is frightened of most dogs. Her adopter should work with her by introducing her to polite, stable dogs slowly. Start out with nice smaller dogs and work your way up. Dog parks are not a good idea for her. Jujubie is not yet completely house trained so her adopter will have to work with her on that. Crate training is recommended as a successful method of house training. A pre-adoption consultation is required to discuss this. Jujubie will do best in a quiet household with an experienced, patient adopter who can teach her that the world is not a scary place.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 10 years or older

Ginger
8 year old
Spayed Female, 80lbs
German Shepherd

Ginger is on trial adoption!

Ginger is a nice older girl who doesn't like other dogs on first meeting. She prefers to be with people and should not be expected, at this age, to interact with all other dogs. She is composed and self possessed and should be a very nice companion for the right household.

Ideal Home: Best in most any household with adjustment

Damon
1 year old
Neutered Male, 59lbs
Siberian Husky

Damon is a gorgeous purebred Husky. He is great with people and he totally enjoys being part of the action and involved in family life. His new active household will be very experienced with dogs. Damon is very exuberant and forward in his greeting of other dogs; learning how to introduce him to other dogs safely is a must. Damon does love to play with other dogs and shows no sign of aggression; but he can be a bit overwhelming due to his size and very physical play style. Because of this, Damon is not a good candidate for dog parks; his canine playmates should be carefully chosen and interaction with other dogs monitored. Developing games with toys that encourage interaction with you is very instrumental in getting him more focused and interested in what you have to offer; ball retrieving, Frisbee, and tug are all good choices. Damon loves to play! Establishing good leadership and a strong bond with Damon is imperative to his becoming a well-mannered member of the household. Damon would do best in a forever home that offers guidance, consistency and structure. He has the potential to be your best friend and a wonderful lifelong companion.
