Don’t misssss thissss…FREE Rattlesnake Workshop at the Marin Humane Society
Learn about the lives of rattlesnakes and how to avoid snakebites
(NOVATO, CALIF., May 8, 2008) As Marin County’s rattlesnakes emerge from their winter retreats, encounters with people and pets are inevitable. Learn important information about the biology and natural history of rattlesnakes from Marin County Open Space Naturalist David Herlocker. Plus, find out facts about rattlesnakes such as why they have rattles and what you should do if your pet encounters a rattlesnake. The workshop, titled “Rattlesnakes: An intimate look at the only dangerous snake in California”, will be held on Wednesday, May 28, from 7 to 9 pm, at the Marin Humane Society (171 Bel Marin Keys Blvd., Novato).
For some people, the word rattlesnake is enough to induce a state of severe panic. For others, the promise of a rattler beside a trail is a source of excitement. Nationwide, 7,000 to 8,000 people are bitten by some type of venomous snake each year, yielding about five annual fatalities. The rattlesnake is the only venomous snake found in Marin County. They are not the most common snake in Marin, but encounters with them are certainly the most memorable.
This workshop is free to the public. For more information, call (415) 506-6209.
