Dog Adoption Application

Betty Bean
6-year-old
Spayed Female, 15lbs
Chihuahua

Betty Bean, who was rescued from a puppy mill, is utterly charming. Her new forever home should have had some prior experience with dogs. She needs a calm, quiet and relaxed environment. Sudden movements and harsh sounds can make her nervous. We suggest families with older children because she gets overwhelmed easily. Betty very much wants to be your friend and spend her days at your side. Just be consistent and patient, and provide her with the guidance and structure she needs. Then your nurturing will allow her to blossom into a wonderful lifelong companion. Betty can be adopted alone, but she would also love to go home with her daughter, Peanut.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Peanut
2-year-old
Spayed Female, 8lbs
Chihuahua Mix

Peanut was rescued from a puppy mill and she’s ready for a new beginning. Because of her difficult youth, she’s reserved and a bit cautious of people. She will be happiest in a calm, quiet and relaxed environment. Her new forever home should have had prior experience with dogs. Peanut spent time with a foster mom who worked on socializing her, and she did gradually relax and learn to feel a lot more comfortable around people. Peanut is content with being picked up and really wants to cuddle in your lap all day. Your nurturing can transform her into a wonderful lifelong companion! Peanut can be adopted alone, but she would also love to go home with her mom, Betty Bean.

Ideal Home: Best in an
adult-only household

Scooby
6-year-old
Neutered Male, 13lbs
Chihuahua Mix

Scooby is out on trial adoption!

Scooby is a really nice little guy who seems to like everyone. He has lived with children successfully and is polite with other dogs. Scooby is really smart and will enjoy learning all kinds of new things. Talk with our staff about separation anxiety and tail chasing. He will need to start out in a home where someone is home much of the time so he can gradually learn how to feel safe on his own.  This terrific friendly dog missed some early training, but will do great with a family who takes the time to teach him.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 6 years or older

Smokey
5-year-old
Neutered Male, 9lbs
Poodle Mix

What a great little dog!  Smokey is lively, smart, and eager to learn new behaviors. This small dog is full of energy and needs sufficient daily exercise to tire him out both mentally and physically. Although Smokey does enjoy a good cuddle in your lap, he would much rather be entertaining you with tricks you have taught him. He should get regular grooming. He generally acts appropriately towards other dogs, but careful introductions to dogs would be best. Smokey is looking for a family who will enjoy his intelligence, sense of humor, and joie de vivre!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 6 years or older

Teddy
1-year-old
Neutered Male, 28lbs
Cocker Spaniel Mix

Teddy is a cute little guy who can be quite engaging and friendly once he feels comfortable. He's probably a Cockapoo (Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix). Teddy can be very friendly one moment and somewhat aloof the next. He will be happiest with guardians who have experience with dogs and who don’t tend to lose their temper. Patient people will be able to teach him what he needs to learn using calm, consistent leadership. Most of the time he’s fine about giving up his possessions, but occasionally he can be possessive. For the right family, Teddy will blossom into a fine companion!

Ideal Home: Best in an adults-only household

Lucy
4-year-old
Spayed Female, 81lbs
Border Collie Mix

This sweet girl is looking for a home and a family to call her own. She is a nice, tolerant dog who could likely do well in a home with children and other dogs. (We don’t know how she feels about cats.) Lucy had the benefit of spending a few weeks at San Quentin as part of our Pen Pals of San Quentin program. While she was there she got into shape and sharpened her obedience skills. With a diet and exercise, Lucy will trim down even more and be happy to go on some adventures with you!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 6 years or older

MacDuff
3-year-old
Neutered Male, 69lbs
Deer Hound Mix

MacDuff will be delighted to live with people who can work with his sighthound sensitivity, gently exposing him to the wonders that await him - including long walks, soft beds, squeaky toys, and plenty of human TLC. Sighthounds tend to be sweet natured, quiet and gentle. MacDuff appears to have these qualities, along with a tendency to offer up hugs! He will benefit from regular walks to help him build up his fitness. Those beautiful eyes and that gentle manner will surely have everyone stopping to admire him when you are out and about.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Reeses
6-month-old
Spayed Female, 12lbs
Jack Russell Terrier Mix

When Reeses looks at you with those big brown eyes, you just want to melt. She loves to be petted. Reeses would love to learn to do tricks, and is likely to make her new guardians laugh with her antics. She can be quite affectionate - as well as bouncy, energetic, feisty...and she barks at dogs, children, and pedestrians. However, it's not difficult to direct Reese's attention elsewhere when she gets alarmed, and if her home is not one that looks out on the world, we think she'll calm down substantially. With the right owner, she'll be a super pet!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Mimi
1 1/2-year-old
Spayed Female, 11lbs
Dachshund Mix

ADOPTED!

Linda
2-year-old
Spayed Female, 17lbs
Terrier Mix

Linda is a sweet little dog who probably lived most of her life outside. She is cautious of new people and going through doors. That said, she learns to trust quickly and wants nothing more than to sit quietly in your lap being petted. Linda was polite with the dogs she met here. She spent some time at San Quentin, where her inmate trainer helped her get more comfortable with inside spaces and meeting people. Because Linda is somewhat nervous, she will do best in a quieter environment where she can receive the love and the proper attention she deserves.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Flirty
3-year-old
Spayed Female, 40lbs
Border Collie
Mix

Flirty reportedly lived well with children, although her energy level is too much for children under age 10. Flirty is uncomfortable meeting strange dogs, does not want to go to dog parks and any dog-dog introductions should be on an "as needed" basis. Flirty will require exercise to exhaustion daily, plus a nice morning or evening stroll around the neighborhood. She LOVES to play fetch so that should really help her get exercise. Flirty is very sweet and wants to hang out with her people, so come meet her!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 12 years or older

Alvin
4-year-old
Neutered Male, 13lbs
Terrier Mix

Adorable Alvin has a sweet disposition, even though he seems reserved when meeting new people. He would prefer his new household to have a calm, relaxed environment and he hopes you have had some experience with dogs. Alvin is polite with most dogs but preferred not to interact, so take him for a couple of leisurely walks each day rather than going to dog parks. Are you willing to provide him with a regular program of feeding, exercise, training and plenty of rest time? He can become a great loyal companion.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Sherry
1-year-old
Spayed Female, 10lbs
Papillon Mix

ADOPTED!

Georgie
10-month-old
Neutered Male, 17lbs
Spaniel
Mix

Georgie is a great little guy who’s ready to see the world and enjoy life.  He has lots of confidence, and loves attention, long walks and lots of play time. He seems to get along well with most dogs and may do fine with another dog in the house. However, he tends to feel that what is his is his and sometimes is not really willing to share with you. Because of this, we believe he would do best with adults only. We suggest you don't have cats in the household, because he might enjoy chasing them.

Ideal Home: Best in an
adult-only household

Roxanne
5-month-old
Spayed Female, 23lbs
Short-Haired Dachshund Mix

Roxanne is a sweet, active dog who is likely to bond very quickly with her new adopter. If you work long hours she is probably not the dog for you, but if you work from home or have someone home much of the time she may be a perfect fit. Roxanne does not appear to have much experience with other dogs – she wants to make friends but isn’t sure how to go about it. Roxanne is an active dog who will need plenty of exercise. Training and structure will be great ways to build her confidence.

Lilah
7-month-old
Spayed Female, 32lbs
Labrador Mix

Lilah was found as a stray, and was initially very shy and withdrawn. Over the last few days she has improved dramatically, but she is still cautious at times. Once she has met you, she’ll be very friendly and playful. She has played with a couple other dogs but was suspicious of others, so we think she should be in a dog-only household. She will also need an experienced home because of her tendency to be worried about strangers. With the right family, Lilah will blossom and become a great companion!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Penny
2-year-old
Spayed Female, 17lbs
Spitz
Mix

Spitzes are generally loyal, friendly, lively, independent, alert, eager, and independent. Penny will love long walks and maybe even hiking. Her playful side will come out more once she is relaxed in her new home. Training Penny will take some patience, and she doesn’t always enjoy being handled. Because Penny’s dog-dog skills need some work, she shouldn’t go to dog parks. A family who loves the independent, furry, gorgeous Spitz types, and is willing to put time into training her, will have a perfect companion.

Ideal Home: Best in an
adult-only household

Charlie
1 1/2-year-old
Neutered Male, 19lbs
Silky Terrier Mix

Charlie’s sweet eyes make it hard to pass him up! He enjoys being with people but can be overwhelmed with sudden movement or loud noises, so he would prefer to live in a quieter household. He will really love long walks with his new best friend. He seems to be polite and respectful with other dogs, but get to know him before considering taking him to dog parks. Charlie is not comfortable being left alone or in a crate, so it would be advantageous if someone were home with him most of the time.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 12 years or older

Foxy
1-year-old
Spayed Female, 6lbs
Rat Terrier Mix

Foxy is adorable, smart, quick and lively. Like all youngsters, she will need her new family to work with her on manners and training, including dog-dog manners. Foxy is small, but will still need to get tired out a few times a day. Long walks and play sessions will help, as well as training time for mental stimulation. She will be fun to train and has the makings of a tricks performer. Her past history tells us that Foxy is good with cats and is crate trained.

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 12 years or older

Franklin
2-year-old
Neutered Male, 11lbs
Chihuahua
Mix

This handsome young pup’s social skills are just developing and he really wants to start trusting you, but it may take a little time. Franklin can't wait to experience all that life has to offer, including going on walks with you and playing with toys. He would prefer to live with a dog-savvy family. He only requires a few daily laps around the block. With the right guidance and structure you both can change your lives forever. If you are a small dog person, come meet Franklin – you may find love at first sight!

Ideal Home: Best in a home with children 16 years or older

Frannie
2-year-old
Spayed Female, 10lbs
Chihuahua Mix

You couldn't ask for a cuter, more social and loving Chihuahua who just wants to feel safe and be by your side. She may even jump into your lap or ask for a belly rub! Her world revolves more around people than dogs and she would prefer not to interact with other canines for now. She will enjoy a family that has some experience with dogs. Be patient with Frannie, give her the structure and guidance she needs plus plenty of daily exercise and you will be justly rewarded with a loving lifelong companion.
